We can’t rate Waiotoi's bush hideaway enough. The location is stunning, the house itself is incredible with most elements being handmade/built by Waiotoi from native Timbers. Waiotoi also thoughtfully provides a number of amenities to make the stay hassle free. We really enjoyed our bushwalk down to matapouri and the complimentary wine on the deck to follow. We will be back for sure for more stargazing and kiwi listening! The best Airbnb we have ever stayed in.

A true escape from the stress of the city. Stunning views and birdsong. I just loved not hearing any road noise at all, I haven’t slept that well in a long time. Make sure you do some stargazing! No light pollution makes for some magical views. The Bach is set up perfectly for a couples escape and has everything you could possibly need. The bush track at your doorstep was a bonus and Tane Moana is a must visit. Thanks Gunter and family, we highly recommend staying here.

Wow! What a beautiful place to unwind and relax. If you are looking for somewhere private and quiet to escape to, then this is the place for you! The view from the deck is gorgeous and the space itself has everything you need. Waiotoi was a very welcoming host and this made the experience even better. I would happily return here again someday and defnitely recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing escape from city life 🙂

Fall to sleep to the sound of kiwi and rise to the sound of Tui. A stunning house nestled in the centre of native bush. A perfect base to explore local beaches, or just relax in tranquility. We will defnitely be staying again.

We had an amazing time tucked away in this stunning wee cabin! Waiotoi was a fabulous host, really helpful and quick to respond. The house was lovely, small and cosy and quaint with lots of charm and character! If you’re looking for a quiet and remote getaway, this is the place for it. Highly recommend!

Wonderful location - so private and peaceful, with an amazing view over the bush and sound of kiwi through the night! Great little track through the bush down to Matapouri, either for cycling or hiking. Well equipped, little kitchen and a very relaxing time to be had.

We had a lovely time. It is a very special place. We enjoyed the peace and tranquility and all the modern comforts that the place has to offer.

Waiotoi is a really unique place to stay - a secluded hut on a hill surrounded by bush. It was a nice antidote to city life and we enjoyed the birdsong, the quiet and the many stars at night. The cabin has everything you need and is clean and organised - would recommend.

Waiotoi's place is honestly a gem. It literally has everything you need and more. He’s thought of everything - to coffee plunger and oil for cooking all the way to a speaker for the projector! It was a treat to stay here and Waiotoi is incredibly helpful. If you need a place away from the city, this is your place. Even the locals know about Gunter- so if you get lost while bike riding, they’ll help you because they know Gunter hahaha. Thanks again Waiotoi! 🙂

This place is awesome! Waiotoi was a great host and met us at the hut, explained where and how everything worked. The place was extremely tidy and clean and everything was in good working order! I cant wait to get back here and spend more time in the bush. The bush walk to Matapouri beach was awesome and there is great wildlife on the way there. Highly recommend taking some time out and visiting this gem of a place! we will be back for sure 🙂

The cabin in the bush is a truly special place. The views, birdsong, stars and cosy well equipped cabin all made our long weekend very magical.

A serene nature retreat deep within the Tutukaka bush. The cabin was beautifully designed and well-equipped. It was cool to have Netflix and the projector for evenings and no need to stray too far with the relaxing bush view from the deck to while away time. 10/10.

If you want a complete escape from day to day life, Waiotoi's cabin is for you. It’s perfectly placed in the bush to explore the area on foot (or bikes, provided by Waiotoi). The cabin is equip with everything you need to relax in serenity while being cosy with all amenities. There’s so many amazing beaches in the area or you can just hang out in the cabin and listen to the native bird life or go on a drive to many of the beaches around the area. Would happily come back, it was the sanctuary we didn’t know we needed until we were there.

Great little and secluded cabin! Waiotoi was a great host and helped us with getting there during the night. There was a fair bit of gravel road to get there but it only took about 7 min drive from Ngunguru. Cabin was very clean and host left us a complimentary bottle of wine! There was some water and milk in the fridge and coffee for free too. Great gas BBQ. We haven’t hired bikes but walked to Matapouri which took us at least 1 h each way, it was a lovely walk through bush and scenic countryside. In the night you can hear all kinda of birds around and especially kiwis! Highly recommended!

Perfect spot away in the bush for a few days away. Exceeded expectations. Have your breakfast and coffee on the balcony overlooking the birds and bush. The cabin is all to yourself, away from the owner’s property. Nice and private. Close too to the beautiful beaches and walks nearby. Waiotoi provides great directions to the cabin. Make sure to print them out as you lose Google Maps when heading up the private road. Great hospitality too.
